President’s Pen
by Betty Lonis, SPHR

Betty LonisHappy Holidays!

I cannot believe that it is the end of the year already. And for me, this year-end marks the end of my term as President of HRACI. The last two years have gone by so quickly. It has been an honor to serve and represent this chapter. I have had the pleasure of working with a wonderful group of volunteer leaders, both on the Board of Directors as well as on the various committees. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support and encouragement over the past two years. Together, we have accomplished so much, including the Indiana State Council SHRM Chapter of the Year Award for 2004.

With all that said, I am leaving you in very capable hands. Andrea Davis, SPHR, will serve as your new President. Andrea has been instrumental in assisting with the change initiatives for the organization over the last two years. And I know that she will continue with these initiatives in the future.

I would again like to take the opportunity to recognize the six Board members who are leaving their positions at the end of this year. Kim Vosburg, SPHR, Past President, Linda Phipps, PHR, Secretary, Patty Edwards, Director of Legislative Affairs, Cindy Wenz, SPHR, Director of Education, Rob Aspy, SPHR, Director of Diversity, and Helena Masters, PHR, Director of Finance will all be stepping down from the Board at the end of this year. Each of them has contributed significantly to the Board and we thank them for their efforts and commitment to this chapter.

And finally, the Board joins me in wishing you and your families a wonderful holiday season! We hope you can join us for our holiday celebration at our December meeting!

Please feel free to contact me at 317-277-5345 or president@hraci.org.

Happy Holidays!
Betty

New this year: we are partnering with Gleaners Food Bank of Indiana who helps charities feed people in need. Right here in Indiana, there are 738,000 people who regularly don't get enough to eat...28.1 percent of the entire state's population are children under twelve who are hungry or are at risk of hunger. That's 275,000 Hoosier kids who may not develop properly for lack of nutritious food. 13.15 percent of Indiana's men, women and children don't get enough nourishment to enable them to lead productive lives.

Please bring non-perishable canned food to the Holiday Celebration and help end hunger in central Indiana this holiday season. Each canned good you bring gets you a ticket for the door prize drawing!

HRACI Volunteer Opportunities

Are you looking for an opportunity to become more involved in HRACI? Your chance is coming soon!

Beginning the week of December 13th, the HRACI website will have information about the Annual Committee Recruitment Event. If you are looking for an opportunity to advance the profession and support the professional, a committee might be for you. The information provided on the website will include details regarding level of commitment, the purpose of each committee, and important meeting information.

All members are encouraged to become involved in one of the HRACI committees or volunteer opportunities! Watch for more information to come via email or on the website in December.

Thank You Volunteers
On Monday, November 15th, seven members of HRACI lent their talents to over 30 job seekers at the weekly meeting of the Business and Professional Exchange (BPE).

HRACI members Janet Pierson, Kim Vosburg, Wendy Coyle, Patti Daniels, Kelly Gangl, Theresa Jasper, and Sara Rassmussen met individually with BPE members for approximately 20 minutes each. They conducted one on one interviews and provided advice on resumes.

This program was extremely well received by our BPE members. I know our members benefited greatly; and, I think your seven volunteers also enjoyed the experience.

It is our hope that this type of program can be offered perhaps every six months, or even quarterly if the manpower to staff the project is available.

A very special thanks to Janet Pierson for spearheading this effort.

On behalf of BPE, a sincere thanks to HRACI for a job well done.

Sincerely,
Jim Liston
Chairman
Business and Professional Exchange
