Managers vs. Managers of Choice: Turnover vs. Profitability
One business truth is that becoming an “Employer
of Choice” has a positive financial impact—but
it cannot be a standalone strategy. There are no Employers
of Choice (EOCs) without Managers of Choice (MOCs). Managers
are the implementers of “Employer of Choice” practices.
This
program has been approved for 1 recertification credit
hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the
Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI). For more
information about certification or recertification, please
visit the HRCI homepage at www.hrci.org.
To
overcome the four issues of this decade: retention of
talent, attraction of talent with critical skills, improved
workplace performance and building workforce skills, a
new management approach is needed. One size fits all management
approaches are no longer effective because “the new
rule of motivation is ‘everyone is different’.”
Participants
in this interactive session will learn about Employer
of Choice Foundation Strategies, the definition
of a “Manager of Choice,” the business case
for becoming a Manager of Choice, and strategies and tactics
to become a “Manager of Choice” including the
five competencies that will make them less stressed and
more successful.
Presenter:
Nancy S. Ahlrichs Raichart, SPHR
Nancy Ahlrichs knows the secret that separates organizations
with high turnover and lower profits from those with
high individual productivity, quality of services, products
and financial performance. The secret? The most profitable
organizations are both customer–centered and employee-centered.
Nancy
shares her research in her speaking and consulting. She
has written numerous articles and guest columns for
the Indianapolis Business Journal, technical journals and
online resources such as www.InsideIndianaBusiness.com,
www.Monster.com and www.BrassRing.com. Her new book, Manager
of Choice: 5 Competencies for Cultivating Top Talent, co-published
by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and
Davies-Black Publishing, was released in October 2003.
She is also a contributing author for On Staffing, an edited
volume to be released in 2004 by Wiley & Sons. Her
first book, Competing for Talent: Key Recruitment and
Retention Strategies for Becoming an Employer of Choice, is available
through major bookstores and www.amazon.com.
She has spoken to more than 225 audiences and
management teams in utilities, insurance, healthcare,
high tech, legal, banking, government and other fields
in the past five years using her 20+ years of experience
in human resources, marketing, and management. Most recently,
Ms. Ahlrichs used her HR, OD, branding and marketing
experience as the Director of Organizational Evolution
and as the Director of Marketing and Public Relations
for ONEX, Inc., an Indianapolis-based high tech solutions
consulting firm with offices in the Midwest.
The late Governor Frank O’Bannon named her
a “Distinguished Hoosier” for her service
to the State of Indiana, and she was named “Kiwanian
of the Year 2001-2002.” A Purdue graduate with
both her B.A. and M.S. degrees, she is also certified
as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Nancy served on the board of directors for Interactive
