Topic: Emerging Workforce

This program has been approved for 1 recertification credit hours toward PHR and SPHR recertification through the Human Resource Certification Institute (HRCI).

Speaker: Wayne Voris, Spherion

Join us for an in-depth look into the 2003 Spherion Emerging Workforce Study. The results provide valuable insight on recruiting motivating and retaining talent. The Spherion Emerging Workforce Study provides a comprehensive portrait of changes in the American workforce in the context of on-going social and economic events. The 2003 workforce survey updates and expands on the previous workforce research published by Spherion (former Interim Services) in 1997 and 1999. Building on the previously established themes of the traditional versus the Emergent Worker, the research sought to further examine and define what drives and motivates these different groups of workers and their response to a worsening economic and employment outlook.

About our speaker Wayne Voris
Wayne Voris is a Vice President within the Spherion Professional Recruiting business unit of Spherion Corporation. Wayne has been with the Spherion organization for 14 years and currently is responsible for one of the largest zone within the Professional Recruiting group. He leads a team of 120 + Executive Recruiters dedicated to providing recruiting solutions for clients in a variety of industries from Manufacturing/Engineering to Service Related industries. Wayne's background encompasses a wide array of experiences and he has been credited with numerous accomplishments including: Successful completion of recruitment assignments in contingency, retained and contract methodology; numerous office "start ups"; the founding and actual operations of an internal University style training institution for new Recruitment professional (which achieved "best in class" status by Ford Motor Company; deployment of several on-site "managed staffing" arrangements; and the chairmanship of the group's ISO 9001 Quality initiatives. During his tenure at Spherion, Wayne also has started and run multiple location Human Capital Consulting practices focused in career transition planning and Human Resources consulting assignments.

Prior to joining Spherion, Wayne spent 10 + years in progressive Human Resources assignments where he had responsibility for multi-site locations while leading each organizations efforts in" staffing, talent acquisition and manpower planning: compensation and benefits design and implementation; AAP and diversity deployment: employee relations and union avoidance.

Your Foundation at Work: Making Mergers Work

The SHRM Foundation book, Making Mergers Work, is making headlines! Based on a joint study with Towers Perrin on the role of human resources in mergers and acquisitions, the book clearly demonstrates that HR's early strategic involvement in the M&A process directly impacts its chances of success. If your organization is planning a merger, be sure to pick up your copy of Making Mergers Work, the Strategic Importance of People from the SHRMStore. The book provides detailed information on how HR can add value at every stage of the M&A process. A review in Soundview says "this book gives [HR] the tools necessary for creating careful planning and implementation, realistic expectations, and consistent, well-conceived communication with employees." To read an executive summary of the findings or to purchase the book, visit www.shrm.org/foundation.
